Below is a listing of LGBT legal and non-legal resources in the Dallas area, in Texas, and nationwide.

Each fall, OUTlaw members volunteer for the Dallas Black Tie Dinner, a law-oriented fundraising event that financially supports Texas LGBT organizations. Many of the following organizations also seek legal interns throughout the year. Where available, a direct link to an online list of internship opportunities is provided for each organization.

Lambda Legal

Lambda Legal is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.

Dallas Gay & Lesbian Alliance

For more than 25 years, the mission of the Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance ("DGLA" has been to advocate for full civic rights, dignity, and self-respect for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals by educating, creating social and political change, and fighting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, in order to achieve full participation of all people in society.

Dallas GLBT Bar Association

The DGLBA is a bar association composed of lawyers, law students, legal support professionals, and related professionals who share an interest in the laws that affect and protect the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered community.

Human Rights Campaign (Dallas/Fort Worth Steering Committee)

Founded in 1980, HRC advocates on behalf of LGBT Americans, mobilizes grassroots actions in diverse communities, invests strategically to elect fair-minded individuals to office and educates the public about LGBT issues.

Legal Aid of Northwest Texas

With offices located in downtown Dallas, Legal Aid provides no-cost phone and in-person civil legal services to qualified low-income residents of northwest Texas including such cities as Amarillo, Dallas, Denton, Midland/Odessa, Ft. Worth, and San Angelo.

Legal Hospice of Texas

Provides legal services to low income persons diagnosed with terminal illnesses or HIV-disease. OUTlaw regularly volunteers to work at the Black Tie Dinner to support the continued efforts of Legal Hospice.

LGBT Bar Association (Washington, D.C.)

The National LGBT Bar Association is a national association of lawyers, judges and other legal professionals, law students, activists and affiliated lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender legal organizations. The LGBT Bar promotes justice in and through the legal profession for the LGBT community in all its diversity.

LGBT Law Section of the State Bar of Texas

The purpose of the Section is to:

  • promote the study of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and HIV law;
     
  • study and report on laws, decisions and governmental regulations as they may affect the rights, responsibilities and the needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual and/or transgendered identified people, as well as persons who are living with HIV; 
     
  • provide a common meeting ground and forum for members of the profession interested in the legal problems of people who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered, as well as people who are living with HIV;
     
  • study and report on laws, decisions and governmental regulations as they may affect the rights, responsibilities and the needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual and/or transgendered identified people, as well as persons who are living with HIV; and
     
  • take action regarding these matters, subject to these bylaws and the laws, rules, and regulations of the State of Texas
